5 Easy Packing Tips You Need to Know About

Moving can be a stressful experience if you’re not prepared. Even with the help of some great movers, having to sort through your belongings can be a fun but tough trip down memory lane.

But packing doesn’t have to be a chore! Here are 5 great tips you can use to make for easy packing. You’ll be done before you know it!

1. You Don’t Have to Take Everything With You

You may feel obligated to pack every single item and take it with you. And as you look around your house, that’s a pretty daunting task, no doubt.

But ultimately, you’re under no obligation to take everything with you. In fact, there are plenty of benefits to selling or giving away items you don’t use anymore.

Consider holding a yard sale and selling your excess things. It’ll make for easy packing comparatively and you’ll have a bit of extra cash for the move!

You can also call up your local Goodwill and schedule a pick-up. This is a fantastic option if you have lots of furniture or clothing. And if you get a receipt, you can even count the donation as a tax credit.

2. Give Yourself Plenty of Time

Even if you live in an apartment, packing is going to take up quite a bit of time. On average, packing can take anywhere from a day to a week depending on your availability.

It’s recommended that you give yourself at least 2-3 weeks in advance to pack everything up. The more time you give yourself, the less stressed you’ll feel as the moving date approaches.

Come up with a comprehensive moving plan to speed things along. Make sure there are plenty of boxes and tape in every room and schedule which rooms you’ll pack on which days.

It may seem like a lot of work, but trust us, it’s going to save you a whole lot of time and stress.

3. Packing Valuables Requires Extra Care

Things like picture frames and plates and mugs require some extra attention. Therefore, you have two options.

First, you can always invest in some foam packing peanuts or bubble wrap. It may cost a little extra but it’ll keep your belongings safe.

Or you can always work with your moving company, as they likely offer packing options as well. Your goods are guaranteed to get to your new home safely and quickly.

Ask for Free Boxes

Many moving companies will give out free used boxes to customers who have booked a move with them.  The free boxes can save you a lot of money on packing supplies.

If your mover is out of used boxes or doesn’t offer them, here’s a fun tip that can save you tons of money: go around to different businesses and ask if

you can have their excess cardboard boxes.

Most companies, like Walmart, will often give out cardboard boxes

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

Finally, it’s okay if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the move. Whether you’ll be too busy with work or you simply don’t want to bother with packing, there are plenty of people who will help.

Be sure to ask your moving company whether or not they offer packing services. Some may even give you a discount for bundling services.
