Corrigan Helps SE Michigan Girl Scouts Bring Cookies to the Community

One of our favorite events of the year revolves around our ongoing work with the Girl Scouts of America. Everyone can recognize the telltale colors and logos of the Girl Scouts’ famous cookies, but most probably don’t understand how extensive of a journey it is for your beloved Thin Mints to reach your local troops.

All Girl Scout cookies are baked and boxed at one of two different bakeries. From there, the cookies are transported via truck to warehouses in the same community as the local Girl Scout troops. This is where Corrigan comes in. For over 20 years, our company has worked with the Girl Scouts to help warehouse and distribute the cookies to the individual Girl Scouts. As the sole distributor for the southeast Michigan troops, there were thousands of cases that were moved and loaded into the Scouts’ cars by our crews – 170,000 to be exact. With twelve boxes to a case… that’s a lot of cookies.

To deliver the cookies to the Girl Scouts volunteers are scheduled to pick up their cookies from us either direct from our warehouse, or at a large parking lot, like a Meijer or Kroger.  We load up the cookies into our tractor trailers and take them out to the drop locations.  There our moving crews will load up the volunteers vehicles with the exact quantity of cookies ordered. In total, Corrigan helped move 100,000 cases in the Dearborn area, 45,000 in Auburn Hills and 25,000 at our Farmington Hills location. Our Farmington Hills location handed out over 4,000 cases Thursday night alone, with parents forming a receiving line outside of our warehouses with their vehicles. Thanks to the help of these volunteers and their adherence to the scheduled pickups, we were able to move 170,000 cases of cookies in just under four days.

While we’re used to moving things much heavier and bulkier than your order of Samoas, we really do enjoy working with such a great organization. Congrats to the Southeastern Michigan Girl Scouts on all of their hard work, and good luck with your sales!
