8 Things to do in Ohio this Spring

From Lake Erie to the north to the Ohio River on the south, the state is filled with places to see and things to do. We’ve put together a list of some of the best things to do in Ohio as Winter gives way to Spring and you might be suffering from a little cabin fever. Here goes:

1. Take a trip along the Cuyahoga Scenic Railroad

Running through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, 33,000 acres of National Park land, the railroad is a favorite of kids and adults alike.

With year-round excursions, the train provides an excellent way to take in natural scenery and wildlife, and an opportunity to learn about local history. With nine stations (Rockside Station, Canal Exploration Center, Brecksville Station, Boston Mill Station, Peninsula Depot, Indigo Lake Station, Botzum Station, Big Bend, and Akron Northside Station), you can board and get off at any time. The train is a fun, exciting adventure for the entire family.

For the adults 21 and over the Ales on Rails and Grape Escape tours offer an excellent opportunity to sip your favorite adult beverage while the miles slip away.

2. Have a White House experience without going to Washington.

Did you know that nine U.S. Presidents have called Ohio home?  From William Henry Harrison to Warren G. Harding, walk in the footsteps of some of the greatest American leaders. From childhood homes to national libraries to research centers, Ohio has been the birthplace and home to many historical American leaders.

3. Discover space at the Armstrong Space Museum.

Whether you had a childhood dream to be an astronaut or want to learn more about Ohioan Neil Armstrong, the first human to walk on the moon, the Armstrong Space Museum is sure to educate, enlighten, inspire, and entertain you. Located in Wapakoneta, OH this museum is for the entire family.

4. Engage in world-class art.

Akron’s Art Museum is an excellent place to spend a day with the entire family. The museum features an impressive permanent collection and seasonal exhibits. With hands-on exhibits and free Thursday admission, it’s sure to become a favorite for the budget-conscious family.

5.  Spend a relaxing day with art and nature.

Located in Hamilton, OH, the Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park and Museum have one of the most extensive collections of outdoor sculptures (60+ and counting) and more than 300 acres of beautiful parks and woodlands where you can relax. Drive through the grounds by car or special golf cart, or simply walk to enjoy the beauty.

Pyramid Hill also features a 10,000 square foot indoor Ancient Sculpture Museum that exhibits Greek, Roman, Etruscan, Syrian and Egyptian Sculpture dating to 1550 B.C. The museum also houses a Museum Gallery that holds changing exhibitions of local, regional and national artists.

6. Celebrate Christmas 365 days a year.

If you can’t get enough Christmas spirit, be sure to visit Castle Noel in Medina, OH. With the world’s largest privately-owned collection of Christmas movie props and costumes, the Castle is also the largest Christmas attraction in America. The Castle hosts animated Christmas windows from Sak’s Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, and more.

Or head over to Cleveland, OH and stop by “Ralphie’s house” from the movie “A Christmas Story,” where you can walk the home and get movie memorabilia in the gift shop, and even make arrangements to stay overnight.

8. Check out aquatic life from around the globe.

The Greater Cleveland Aquarium is filled with amazing aquatic life from the Great Lakes as well as colorful sea creatures from around the world. See more than 1,400 animals representing 250 species including weedy seadragons and a giant Pacific octopus.

The aquarium features nine immersive galleries with unique views that include an 11,000 gallon stingray touch pool as well as a 175-foot sea tube that takes you to the ocean floor where pufferfish, angelfish, barracuda, and three species of shark dart through the water above you and beside you.
