International moving can be one of life's most exciting yet challenging experiences. Otherwise we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions asked when moving Internationally.

 

• When should I contact an International Moving Company to begin organizing my relocation?
As soon as you consider an International relocation contact with an International mover should be made. Pre-planning and preparation is the key to a successful overseas relocation. Many contributing factors need to be confirmed in order provide you with the most accurate information regarding cost, customs requirements, customs required documentation or shipping restrictions for your specific destination country.

• How are the estimated costs and size of my shipment determined?

A Corrigan Representative performs a visual pre-survey in your home. The survey is free-no obligation, but allows accurate weight and services needed to compile your relocation estimate. Survey appointments are available Monday –Friday 9am-4: 30 pm.

• When can I expect my estimate to be available after the survey is completed?
Within 48-72 hours of the survey appointment we would be able to send you a door to door estimate of service that would include charges for door to door services, auxiliary services such as crating, our recommend mode for shipping as well as customs information relevant to your specific destination country. We will also include any services that my not be included such as duties, taxes or customs exam fees. These services and their charges are country specific and are sometimes difficult to estimate.

• Will my estimate include costs for insurance coverage?

Transit insurance can be purchased for an additional cost. Information regarding extent of coverage and nature of the inclusions/exclusions will be included in your estimate of services letter.

 

• How do I proceed with scheduling my International move after your estimate is reviewed and accepted?
Once you have decided to entrust your relocation with Corrigan International we can work together to organize a time line for pack, load, transportation and delivery based on your specific needs as well as destination country.

Many factors are involved on how quickly services and dates need to be organized. Peak periods of the year such as summer or timing between Major Holidays and the end of the year can affect the availability of personnel, equipment and transit times. For specific details regarding a particular time of the year, please contact our International Customer Service Department.

• How do I prepare prior to my scheduled pack/load dates?
Corrigan International can provide you with a relocation guide that will assist you with recommendations for how to prepare in the weeks prior to you pack/load. You should also consider the size of your International living space. It is common for living quarters to be smaller abroad than in your current residence. Electronics and Appliances may also not be allowed to ship to specific countries due to customs restrictions or due to varying international voltage.

• How do I pay for my relocation? When are charges collected?

We will require 50% of total costs provided in estimate of service paid prior to the first day of packing and loading. The pre-payment of any charges is in order to pre-book shipping equipment or specialized packaging. The remaining balance is only due after the pack/load is performed and we have accurate information regarding actual weight and services performed. The remaining balance is due in full prior to the release of your shipment for air or sea transportation.

• Who will assist me with my personal effects once I arrive in my destination country?

Corrigan works with network of certified movers throughout the world. A Corrigan destination partner will be assigned to you upon booking your move with us. In many cases our destination partner is in contact with you prior to your pack/load dates in order to discuss requirements for import customs clearance and assist with organization of these documents. Depending on your specific destination country the organization of customs documents is required before your shipment can be released for transportation via air or sea.

• How do I proceed with filing a claim for coverage for insurance coverage I purchase as part of my door-to-door relocation?

If the unfortunate incident occurs and submission of a claim is required you can file the claim via our website from anywhere in the world at anytime of the day. You can email us about your claim or contact your International Relocation specialist directly as well and they can forward a claim form to you.
